Movie Review — Our Blues (2022)
Do you lately tired of your everyday life and need an escape to refresh your mind? I think watching a drama that presents a slice of life along with the rich issues that happened to a group of people who live on Jeju island, Korea won’t hurt you!
Truth to be told, in the first few episodes I don’t really like this drama. It was because I was confused about which characters are the main characters in this drama? Why there are so many people here? The storyline is screwed up and confusing. And yet, I continued to watch the episodes then I began to understand the concept of this drama. Aah, so this drama’s main characters are not only 2 or 3 people, but everyone on the poster is the main character. However, each 2 to 3 episodes are focused on one family or one relationship.
From a hater to becoming a fan of “Our Blues” drama, I found layers of issues and rich representations of social and relationship problems. This drama has all the social problems that currently might be happening to a lot of people around us. You can name it: a bad relationship between a mom and a son like Dong-Seok and Ok-Dong, a lost love that has almost bloomed again between Eun-Hui and Han-Su, a love-hate relationship between 2 pairs of best friends like Eun-Hui and Mi-ran also In-gwon and Ho-sik, a young marriage between Yeong-Ju and Hyeon, a mental illness that is encountered by Seon-a and lastly, an extraordinary love story between Yeong-ok and Jeong-jun.
I can’t say too much. Words cannot describe how amazing this drama is. The cinematography technique chosen by the cameramen is various and they can emphasize the atmosphere within the story. The unique string of musical instruments that are played in every episode is suited well to Jeju’s village view. It is relaxing and ecstatic at the same time. Moreover, the chemistry and the acting skills ability of the actors and actresses must be hugely appreciated.
Honestly, I’m such a dramatic and mellow person. So, whenever I watched something funny, sad, or scary I would be diving into the characters’ shoes. This goes the same with this drama. I cried, I laughed, and I was scared in different episodes of course. I want to tell you about my experience of watching 2 episodes about Chun-hui and Eun-gi. In the process of watching those 2 episodes, I couldn’t stop crying because I felt the pain that is felt by Eun-gi who almost lost her dad at a very young age. I was also sad while understanding Mrs. Chun-hui’s point of view, who almost lost her only living son along with pitying her grandchild, Eun-gi. I just can’t ;((
Overall, “Our Blues” is highly recommended to watch on your weekends. It is a beautiful and light drama that contains a lot of life lessons that are worth to be learned. This drama teaches us how to not take everything around our lives for granted. Furthermore, to appreciate family, life, and love.
